TUBE HOUSE- A Heritage Resource of Hanoi Ancient Quarter, Vietnam

The Ancient Quarter, a downtown area with over a thousand years of history, is located in the heart of Hanoi Capital City. Historic and architectural vestiges combined with a traditional urban fabric give it a unique character as a part of the national heritage. Historically, the area and its evolvement have always been associated with Hanoi city’s existence from the 10^th century up to now. The Quarter has an area of approximately 100 hectares (Map 1), consisting of a huge amount of individual assets, groups of buildings, rows of tube-houses and other cultural, religious-evolutionary construction structures. The purpose of this paper is to present a different view on the heritage environment of Hanoi Ancient Quarter; unknown development of tube- houses and its surrounding blocks.
